How do you choose a speaker worthy of your brand?

Start with the occasion: who receives the speaker, where it plays and for how long.

Start with how it will be handed out

According to one distributor, pocket-size speakers are the usual pick for a trade show booth; for a key client or an executive onboarding kit, it suggests a more premium device, and for a team working outdoors, a rugged or waterproof build [1]. According to the U.S. results of a 2026 study by ASI, an industry organization, practicality is the main reason people keep a promotional item; the article cites tech accessories, not speakers [2]. So aim for the recipient's actual use.

Reliability: your name is on it

Distributors argue that recipients judge the brand by the quality of the gift [1][3]. Independent tests help you compare, where they exist: Which?, the British consumer organization, combines a listening panel with frequency response measurements [4]. Tight budget? Consider fewer units of a better-made device; whether a sample unit is available is to be confirmed with your quote.

In an advisory focused mainly on replacement batteries, Transport Canada recommends buying from the manufacturer or devices listed by a qualified testing laboratory; a much lower price, an unfamiliar brand or misspelled labels are warning signs [5]. According to ISED, a radio device approved in Canada carries its certification number, which you can look up in the Radio Equipment List [6]: ask the supplier for it (applicability to each device to be confirmed).

Battery life: a guide, not a promise

Which? finds that advertised battery life doesn't always match its own measurements, taken with continuous music at moderate volume [4]. So leave some margin for the actual use (a day at the beach, a work shift). How much high volume or built-in lighting drains the battery is to be confirmed.

Waterproof? Check the IP rating

In the IP code of the IEC 60529 standard [7], the second digit covers water [8]. According to a testing laboratory, IPX4 protects against splashing, IPX5 against low-pressure water jets, IPX7 against the effects of immersion to 1 m (test duration to be confirmed) and IPX8 against more severe conditions [8]. At the office, a high rating adds little; IPX4 is fine on a patio, but for the beach or a pool, look for immersion protection: one Canadian distributor points out that not all of its speakers are pool-ready [9].

A readable logo on a small housing

According to distributors, pad printing suits curved plastic and rubberized housings, laser engraving suits metal and bamboo, and full-colour digital printing or labels suit multicolour logos and gradients [1][10]. If your logo's colours are non-negotiable, that should steer your choice of housing. With so little space, they recommend a simplified, high-contrast logo and a proof checked at actual size [1][10].

Écran Blanc's advice

For a client gift, favour a well-documented device (IP rating, battery life, certification number) over the lowest price, and don't judge range by the Bluetooth version number alone, which the Bluetooth SIG doesn't list among the factors that determine it [11]. Planning individual shipments to recipients? Say so in your request: an installed lithium battery has to be declared to the carrier [12]; Canada Post does not accept them for destinations outside Canada and the United States, and its other conditions are to be confirmed at the time of shipping [13].

Why choose Écran Blanc?

Écran Blanc is a Quebec family business founded by two brothers and based in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, where our workshop is located. A promotional speaker means balancing the occasion, the budget and a logo that has to fit on what is often a small housing, and that's exactly the kind of puzzle we like to work through with you. Share your quantities, budget, timeline and project goal, and we'll pull several options from our catalogue.

Before production, a proof lets you check the colours, layout and size of the imprint. From the first conversation through delivery, we keep you updated at every step.

Frequently asked questions about custom speakers

How far will a Bluetooth speaker's signal reach?
It varies widely. According to the Bluetooth SIG, an industry association, range runs from under a metre to more than a kilometre and depends on factors such as transmit power, receiver sensitivity, antenna gain and obstacles [11]. So ask for the stated range of the device and allow some margin if walls or other obstacles will stand between it and the source device.
Does the speaker come with a charging adapter?
Not necessarily. One Canadian distributor states that most of its custom speakers ship with a charging cable only [9]. If you're giving the speaker as a ready-to-use gift, ask for the box contents to be spelled out in your quote: this point is to be confirmed for each device.
Can you deliver my order, or do I need to pick it up?
Both are possible. Promotional product orders can be shipped anywhere in Quebec, or you can collect yours at our Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu workshop. For delivery elsewhere or individual shipments to your recipients, mention it in your request: those options are to be confirmed with your quote.
How much lead time should I allow for a holiday order?
Timing hinges on the product, the quantity, the decoration method and availability. One U.S. distributor notes that electronics often take longer, especially in the fourth quarter [1], so put your date right in your quote request. We'll always confirm the expected date before production starts.
What logo file should I send, and when will I see the result?
Ideally a vector file (.AI, .EPS, .SVG) or a high-resolution image of at least 300 DPI, and we can check your file for you. You can start your request before your files are ready. A visual proof is then sent for your approval before production.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
The minimum varies from one product to another. Tell us which speaker and how many you need, and we'll get back to you quickly with what's possible. Torn between a few speakers? Add them all to one quote request to compare the options.

A speaker with your logo for your next project?

Add the speakers you're interested in to your request and tell us about the occasion, your quantities, your deadline and how they'll be distributed. We'll get back to you with the details and pricing.
